The Mission of the Department of Neurological Surgery is to provide the public with the highest level of compassionate, surgical care of the nervous system. We are committed to training the next generation of neurological surgeons to lead with cutting edge psychomotor skills, unsurpassed ethical behavior and continuously refined analytical abilities. We strive to improve public health by fostering collaborative, innovative research that maintains, restores or repairs neural function.

Dr. Kalume investigates a form of epilepsy called Dravet Syndrome, as well as the mechanism that allows the ketogenic high-fat diet to suppress seizures.
